Mobility Lab, City Lab, Science Wall and cable car model
From June 4 to 5, 2024, the two-day Cable Car World congress trade fair will be the platform for the future of mobility at the Plus One level. It will focus on urban cable cars as a sustainable addition to public transport. Numerous special shows will impart knowledge, provide input and concrete recommendations for municipalities on how to successfully plan and implement urban cable car projects.
The Mobility Lab powered by Bartholet & Leitner is the center of Cable Car World 2024 and uses charts, graphics and films to show the entire world of urban cable cars along the four themes of “Society”, “Sustainability”, “Technology” and “Profitability”. It highlights the social, technical, sustainable and economic aspects of cable cars in urban areas.
In cooperation with industry partners, various workshops invite visitors to exchange ideas: On the Tuesday of the trade fair, June 4, Dr. André Schaffrin, Federal City of Bonn / ifok, will provide information on “Urban cable cars critically eyed - exchange of experiences on public participation in Bonn”, while Dr. Oliver Wittig, Ernst & Young, will focus on “Financing in compliance with state aid law and aspects of public procurement law”. “Urban development, housing and mobility: integrating cable cars into overall planning from the outset” is the title of the workshop with Han Joosten, bpd. David Zillhardt, Ingérop, invites the expert audience to explore the question of how French cities have mastered the last step towards the implementation of urban cable cars and how these approaches can be transferred to other cities.
On Wednesday, June 5, the workshop with Janosch Neumann, Heinemann & Partner, will focus on “Planning the alignment of a cable car route”. Jürgen Heinzel, UNStudio, will discuss “Cities on a new level: designing cable car systems for urban identity and connectivity” with the participants. “Ways out of urban traffic chaos - from the initial idea to a sustainable mobility concept: an interactive workshop for the development of public transport-integrated cable cars through analysis, simulation and visualization” is the topic of Raphael Schmidt, Future Mobility Solutions. Finally, Mark Huckshold, Industrieverband Feuerverzinken, will explain “Hot-dip galvanizing in practice: planning, production and execution”.
In the expert lounge, interested parties will also receive detailed answers to general questions about the implementation of urban cable car projects. The focus here is on the planning process, building regulations, public procurement procedures and financing. Six experts are available here.
Best practice in the City Lab
Another component of the Mobility Lab is the City Lab. It serves as a presentation area for municipalities to present their own mobility projects at the Plus One level as part of sustainable urban development planning. Successfully implemented projects serve as examples of best practice, while ongoing projects can be explored in greater depth and receive new impetus. The cities of Bogotá, Bonn, Duisburg, Freetown, Herne, Munich, Oberhausen, Offenbach, Toulouse and the Rhine-Neckar Transport Association will be there to present themselves and their projects.
In dialog with science
Research findings from universities have a permanent place at Cable Car World. The Science Wall as a further component of the Mobility Lab conveys the current state of knowledge on urban cable cars as part of a new mobility and serves as a link between theory and practice. The TU Vienna, TH Ingolstadt, Universidad de los Andes, Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, OTH Regensburg, Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana and the Mobility Department of the City of Munich are among the participating institutions.
Cable car model on a scale of 1:10
A detailed model of a cable car based on the Doppelmayr 10-MGD is the eye-catcher at Cable Car World 2024. This 1:10 scale monocable gondola lift has a six millimetre thick cable from Fatzer, which is also represented with a stand, and extends over a horizontal length of 12.7 meters, with the highest support at 4.7 meters. The entire model reaches a length of 25 meters and is equipped with an original Doppelmayr control stand. Barrier-free access under the reversing station allows the technology to be viewed at close range and from the perspective of a passenger. The Fischertechnik model is sponsored by the Alliance for Mobility, an initiative of the Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
